Ms. P - A Journey From Suffering To Self-Empowerment

Ms. P came to Ryan Reid Photography, recommended by another local mom. She is an incredibly talented entrepreneur that runs a local marketing & design studio. And of course, she absolutely KILLED her shoot and was so much fun to work with!

Q: Have you ever done a boudoir shoot before?

A: Never done it before! Been waiting ‘til I found the right photographer!

Q: Why did you do your boudoir shoot?

A: I did it because I've just recently come out of my shell. I had some pretty heavy shit buried inside of me that I've been apparently carrying since I was a teenager. I had no idea. Took a couple years of therapy and self-work to finally love myself again. It has solidified my marriage, it has made everything better. So I just wanted to (finally) celebrate myself and allow myself to shine through without any fear or shame.

Q: What was your favorite part of the session?

A: The most special part of the session was taking pictures with my wedding veil. We never had truly professional photos taken on our wedding day—everything was friends coming together to help out. It was beautiful, but I always miss not having a professional album of these memories. So using the veil was an incredibly special touch.

Q: What did doing this shoot do for your self-confidence, self-worth, and self-image?

A: It was very empowering. Being a victim of sexual assault at a young age I never realized how much I didn't value myself. So allowing myself now at age 40, wife, mother of two, to embrace my body, my self, my sexuality was incredibly powerful. I was in control of the situation the whole time and it made me feel safe and so strong and most importantly BEAUTIFUL. I did this for ME, and I'm so proud that I did it.

Q: Was your experience what you were expecting?

A: It was better than what I was expecting. The way you had fun and helped me through poses, explaining this to me, all while respecting my space..... it wasn't just a photographer snapping pictures. It made it easier to embrace my sexuality and connect with myself, without feeling embarrassed or judged.

Q: What was the best part of your experience? Would you change anything?

A: Knowing when you hit that shot. Those incredible landscape pics.
