Shakey Graves & Buffalo Hunt share the spotlight for a memorable night in Port Chester

On December 14, 2024, the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, hosted an unforgettable evening with Shakey Graves (Alejandro Rose-Garcia) and Buffalo Hunt (Stephanie Hunt). Despite the biting cold outside, the couple’s playful chemistry quickly warmed up the crowd. A surprise to many in the audience, the two Austin-based performers are actually married and this tour was an opportunity to bring their new family on tour!
I was originally introduced to Shakey Graves’ gritty American sound at Connecticut’s newest festival The Capitol Groove earlier in the year. Watching him perform is watching an artist in his element, drawing every ounce of emotion from his guitar, his voice, and his audience. In one moment, he can have the crowd hanging on every word with emotional songs like “Hard Wired” and the next, energizing the crowd by returning to his busking roots with “Roll the Bones.”
Buffalo Hunt brought her vintage blend of indie rock & folk with a spritz of Austin honkey-tonk. Yes, that’s a unique cocktail, but I promise it goes down smoothly and has you ordering another round for the house!
Throughout the evening, the playful banter, the shared harmonies and that unspoken vibe only two people people in love can create, turned the performance into something more — a glimpse into a partnership blending music, love and family. Their dynamic quickly gave off the vibe of a modern Johnny Cash and June Carter, reimagined for a millennial audience, complete with bringing their baby girl to the stage for a song, then returning from off-stage with shots from red solo cups!
Shakey Graves and Buffalo Hunt didn’t just deliver a performance; they created an experience, blending soulful music with personal connection and a touch of playful spontaneity. It was the kind of evening that reminded everyone why live music is so special—it’s not just about the songs, but the stories, the moments, and the magic that can only happen when artists shares their hearts on stage.
